Science, Forgiveness, and Who Struggles With Food
July Mid-Month Link Round-Up
Our mid-month link round-up is free every month! Please read through these pieces and follow and subscribe if anything speaks to you. We love highlighting voices we’ve been following for a long time alongside voices that are new to us.
Ob*sity and Science
I love everything Laura Darby says in this article, so i’ll highlight one particiuarly powerful moment and tell you to go read the rest:
“Science is supposed to be the process of setting aside what we feel should be true in favor of what we can actually prove is true. But when it comes to fat bodies, that process has been reversed. The emotional belief that fat is a failure, a risk, a thing to be feared, is treated as the primary fact. We have allowed a collective emotional response to encroach upon the territory of factual science.”
Forgiveness in Healing
I’ve had to forgive myself and others on my food and body healing journey, so I loved this piece from Self Care Overflows on how time doesn’t heal all wounds, but forgiveness... Well, it can be a powerful part of the healing.
Food Noise?
I love how Deb Benfield explores the “food noise” term and brings us along with her as she does! From biology to restriction and fear, check out this post to consider what “food noise” actually is and some questions to understand what it means for you.
Disordered Eating Doesn’t Discriminate
This is something I’ve talked about on Nope before, and it comes up again and again: you can rarely “tell” from the outside if someone is struggling with food. Thanks to Oona Hanson for bringing this topic to her audience in this new piece.
